CVS Caremark Corporation is a one of the primary retail drugstore companies in the United States. CVS operates over 6,200 retail and specialty pharmacy stores. The company's Web site states that it is "the country's largest pharmacy chain."
During 2006, CVS filled more than 500 million prescriptions, or approximately one out of every seven prescriptions filled in the U.S. retail pharmacy market. CVS also provides pharmacy benefit management services. CVS purchased the pharmacy benefit manager Caremark Rx, Inc. in 2006. The company had net revenues of $43.8 billion in 2006.
